Ebun Azeez Receives Donor Funding for BCL Course

NEWS |

Having made a public appeal for help with funding her place on the BCL course at Pembroke, Ebun Azeez’s determination and talent was noticed by an alumnus of the College, who came forward to offer substantial support.  Fortunately the Oxford Law Faculty was able to identify alumni funding to match this generous gift, and the result is that Ebun will be able to take up her place on the prestigious postgraduate course in the autumn, supported by the Sants BCL Scholarship.

Ebun took a first in her undergraduate degree at the University of Brighton, and was accepted earlier this year for a place on the BCL course at Oxford and Pembroke. However, she was not able to fund the course fees and so started a gofundme campaign for support.

The College’s Academic Director, Nancy Braithwaite, commented: 'Pembroke prioritises graduate student financial support, as we do not want to see offer holders having to turn down places for financial reasons.  There are so many deserving cases that we are not always able to help everyone, so we are delighted that a College donor has come forward to help Ebun. We look forward to welcoming her to Pembroke and to the contribution which she will no doubt make to our community.'

Ebun commented: 'I was overjoyed to receive the news! Without the scholarship, I would have missed out on a huge opportunity and formative period of my life as an aspiring barrister. It has restored my excitement to complete the course as the past few months have been filled with fear and anxiety. For me, this scholarship is more than an opportunity to complete the BCL without looming financial worries, it is an opportunity to make an impact in the world. I would be forever indebted to the generosity of the donors and I hope to make them proud.'
