Annual Fulbright Lecture hosted online
NEWS |
On July 1st, the annual Fulbright Distinguished Lecture was hosted online as a virtual discussion due to restrictions relating to Covid-19. These distinguished annual lectures commemorate former United States Senator J. William Fulbright, and are usually hosted at three different UK universities including Pembroke College.
This year’s online event featured Janet Napolitano, Chancellor of the University of California, who was joined by Professor Irene Tracey, Warden of Merton College and Honorary Fellow of Pembroke College and the Vice-Chancellors of King’s College London and the University of Edinburgh. The lecture focussed on “Higher Education and the Public Good’ and involved a wide-ranging conversation about the contribution of universities to teaching and research and the challenges of re-engaging with the broader public.
Panellists responded to questions from the virtual audience and discussed the results from the IPSOS Mori global survey on public attitudes towards higher education.
The full recording of the discussion is now available on YouTube, and can be viewed here.
