Thick | Thin - An MCR Pop-Up Photography Show

PAST EVENT | 01 October 2016 18:00 - 01 October 2016 20:00

The MCR invites you to join them this weekend for the opening of an exciting new project on Saturday 1st October 2016, 6pm - 8pm in the MCR.

"Thick | Thin" is an MCR pop-up photography show featuring art by Christopher Chavez from Brooklyn, New York.

When he is not behind the lens, Chris is an entrepreneur in residence at The Met MediaLab where he creates and leads programs and projects that reimagine the future of the past.

Speaking on the exhibition, Chris explains: 'These long-exposure digital photographs represent ongoing life research on thick and thin existence. As we move, we disappear visually from one place to another. One could say, we end up existing as thin images in place over time, as a kind of residue, or conscious tracer. Remaining still allows our embodied images to stack up in place - to exist thickly over time.'

He continues: 'My goal with this research is to record the emotions we project onto a life lived as a collection of thick and thin images, and with some luck, reveal to myself and to viewers our own small, daily moments of inquiry that take us beyond image-based existence without having to be in conflict with it. The images on display were taken from 2015 to 2016 in New York City and from September 22nd to September 28th, 2016, at Pembroke College and the University of Oxford Botanical Garden.'

This exhibition was curated by postgraduate student Di Wang (DPhil Oriental Studies, 2015).
