STAR Oxford: Panel Discussion on the Process of Seeking Asylum

STAR Oxford (Student Action for Refugees) are hosting a panel discussion on the process of seeking asylum in Europe with particular focus on the UK. The panel will analyse the current system and its challenges, and discuss possible solutions towards more efficient operation.

The panel will be made up of:

Dr Lilian Tsourdi lecturer in International Human Rights and Refugee Law at Oxford University's Refugee Studies Centre

Helena Cullen local charity Asylum Welcome's Youth Services Coordinator

Shaista Aziz journalist, writer, stand-up comedian and former international aid worker

The event will take place in Pembroke's Pichette Auditorium on Thursday 25th January at 7.30pm. It is free and open to all. 

The Pichette Auditorium is wheelchair accessible.


Set up in 1994, Student Action for Refugees (STAR) is a long-standing national charity, made up of over 40 groups at universities all over the UK and a national team that co-ordinate and support the groups. The charity is governed by STAR’s Board of Trustees, elected annually by the students themselves, and has close ties with many other refugee agencies such as the Refugee Council, Refugee Action and the UNHCR.
