Seminar: Religion and Politics: Defining the Civil State in Egypt

Professor Stephen Whitefield (Fellow in Politics), Dr Elisabeth Kendall (Senior Research Fellow in Arabic and Islamic Studies) and Dr Mazen Hassan (Cairo University), are co-convening this seminar.
The event is supported by the British Academy and the ESRC. It will begin with a keynote address at 5pm on 12 March in Pembroke’s Pichette Auditorium. The seminar proper will take place all day on 13 March.
The aim is to explore key issues in the emergence of Egyptian democracy almost four years on from the January 2011 revolution. The seminars are intended to bring together a broad range of thinkers and perspectives – scholars and students, journalists and commentators – to engage in evidence-based and reasoned dialogue.
