MCR Research Symposium
PAST EVENT | 08 June 2015 19:00
Tonight the MCR once again has the pleasure of hosting the MCR Research Symposium. This termly-highlight provides MCR members an opportunity to showcase their research in a semi-formal setting, and for the rest of us to learn about one another's research topics, and depth and breadth of exciting research going on at Pembroke. Each speaker will present a short and accessible snapshot of their research for 10-15 mins, followed by questions and discussion from the audience.
The talks start at 7.00 p.m. this evening in the Mary Hyde Eccles room (staircase 8, ground floor) followed by a second dessert in the MCR for more relaxed further discussion.
Once again we are pleased to include a member of the JCR in the panel, and to stimulate inter-common room discussion about the wide array of amazing research going on at Pembroke. This term's speakers and subjects are as follows:
Ed Sulston (MCR): "Genetically engineered mosquitoes: the future of disease control?"
Michael Maher King (MCR): "Children in alternative care in Japan: Some puzzles from a year of fieldwork"
Malte Kaller (MCR): "Using induced pluripotent stem cells to model the peripheral nervous system"
Cian Wade (JCR): "The Bayesian brain: Uncertainty in motor adaptation"
As ever this will be a popular event so arrive promptly to start at 7.00pm. If you'd just like to come for the stimulating chit-chat afterwards (wine and food) then we'll be in the MCR at around 8.30 p.m. Come along for a stimulating evening of discussion.
