Exhibition Opening: 'Meaningful Vision'
PAST EVENT | 24 April 2017 18:00
2017 marks the 70th anniversary of the birth of the JCR Art Fund: the realisation of Anthony Emery’s radical and inspirational vision to provide the JCR with “good modern pictures” and “a measure of patronage for modern British artists, who have yet to achieve fame”. The collection had a dual purpose: to decorate and to educate. Students agreed to pay £1 a term in order to create a fund for the purchase of art by emerging British artists.
To commemorate Anthony Emery and to showcase the incredible collection that has arisen from his enthusiasm and the continued commitment of Pembroke JCR students, we present to you our Trinity term exhibition: Meaningful Vision - PMB JCR Art 1947-2017.
Guest speakers include Jon Whiteley (The Ashmolean Museum) , Nico Mann (Pembroke College and The Warburg Institute), Will Atkin (The Courtauld Institute of Art) and a collective of contemporary British artists.
We would be very pleased if you could join us on 24th April at 6pm to celebrate in style, the launch of this exhibition and a special 70th Anniversary edition catalogue.
