Graham Allison

Graham Allison is the Douglas Dillon Professor of Government at Harvard University and a leading analyst of national security with special interests in nuclear weapons, Russia, China, and decision-making. He was the “Founding Dean” of Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, and until 2017, served as Director of its Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs which is ranked the “#1 University Affiliated Think Tank” in the world.  As Assistant Secretary of Defense under President Clinton and Special Advisor to the Secretary of Defense under President Reagan, he has been a member of the Secretary of Defense’s Advisory Board for every Secretary from Weinberger to Mattis.  His first book, Essence of Decision: Explaining the Cuban Missile Crisis (1971), ranks among the all-time bestsellers with more than 500,000 copies in print.

The Rt Hon the Lord Heseltine CH

Lord Heseltine was a Member of Parliament in Britain from 1966 to 2001. He was a Cabinet Minister in various departments between 1979 and 1986 and between 1990 and 1997. He was Deputy Prime Minister from 1995 to 1997. In 2015 Lord Heseltine was appointed by the government as an adviser to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government. Within this remit he was Chair of the Thames Estuary 2050 Growth Commission, co-Chair of the Estate Regeneration Advisory Panel. In October 2012 he published No Stone Unturned in Pursuit of Growth, an independent review into how the public and private sectors in the UK work together to create wealth. His work for the government came to an end in 2017. In June 2019 he became President of The European Movement. Lord Heseltine is an enthusiastic gardener and is a Vice President of the Royal Horticultural Society.

Lord Patten

Chris Patten was educated at St Benedict's School, Ealing and Balliol College, Oxford, where he read Modern History. He joined the Conservative Research Department in 1966. In 1974 he was appointed the youngest ever Director of the Conservative Research Department, a post which he held until 1979. Lord Patten was elected as Member of Parliament for Bath in May 1979, a seat he held until April 1992. In November 1990 he was appointed Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Chairman of the Conservative Party. Lord Patten was appointed Governor of Hong Kong in April 1992, a position he held until 1997, overseeing the return of Hong Kong to China. He was Chairman of the Independent Commission on Policing for Northern Ireland set up under the Good Friday Peace Agreement, which reported in 1999.  Lord Patten is currently Chancellor of Oxford University and Visitor of Pembroke College.

Ambassador Monica Juma

Dr. Monica Juma is the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kenya. She is in charge of the overall defence policy formulation, guidance and implementation. She chairs the Defence Council which is responsible for overall control, policy and direction of the Kenya Defence Forces. She is a member of the National Security Council and advises the President and the National Assembly on any matter relating to the Defence Forces. Dr. Juma was appointed the Cabinet Secretary for Defence in January 2020 and moved from the Ministry of Foreign affairs, where she had served as Cabinet Secretary between 2018-2020. In the Interior docket, she drove transformation and reforms in the national security sector. She also initiated work that led to the development of Kenya’s strategy on Counter-terrorism, violent extremism and the creation of the multi-agency approach in tackling security challenges in general, and terrorism in particular.

Tanya Beckett

Tanya Beckett (Pembroke 1984), has worked in broadcasting and the media for over twenty years. She started out at the FT, then went to work for CNBC, Sky News, CNN and since 1998, the BBC.
She has worked on a variety of programmes on BBC WorldNews, the Newschannel, Radio 4 and BBC1 and BBC2 including The Inquiry, Our World, Working Lunch, Today, World Business report, Newsnight and World Business Report. She also works with the World Bank, Chatham House, the Somali Government and the British Foreign Office in matters relating to trade and communication. Tanya has a degree in Metallurgy and Materials Science and spent five years as an investment banker in Frankfurt and London. She speaks fluent German, good French and some Spanish.
