Coffee Tasting Tour for Former Visiting Students
UPCOMING EVENT | 25 March 2026 08:00 - 25 March 2026 09:00
We would like to invite former Visiting Students of Pembroke College to a Coffee & History: A Grand Central Coffee Tour in New York City with Development Manager, Alice Peat.
Join us for a unique, two-stop coffee tour in the heart of Midtown, where we'll explore the intersection of New York City's rich history and its vibrant, modern coffee scene. Drawing inspiration from groups like NYC Coffee Hunters and NYC Under Grounds, this experience is designed for both coffee connoisseurs and curious newcomers.
The group will meet at 8am in WatchHouse (Chrysler Building) and the group will also visit Dae Day Coffee (485 Lexington Ave).
What to Expect:
- We'll begin our journey at WatchHouse, located within the stunning Art Deco masterpiece, the Chrysler Building. We'll sample one of their meticulously crafted coffees, discussing the "three waves of coffee" and how this framework helps us understand different coffee shop cultures, from the classic diner to the modern third-wave cafe.
- From there, we'll take a short walk to Dae Dae Coffee, an Australian cafe that has brought a new wave of specialty coffee to the Midtown East area. At this stop, we'll taste another coffee and delve deeper into its tasting notes. Our guide, K. A. Keener, of NYC UnderGrounds, an expert on the local coffee scene, will share their passion for the craft and the stories behind the roasters. You'll be able to ask questions and learn about the path from bean to cup.
- By the end of the tour, you'll not only have enjoyed two exceptional cups of coffee, but you'll also have a deeper understanding of the city that never sleeps and the beverage that keeps it going.
This event is accessible with no-step access to the venues.
