Black History Month Lecture by Baroness Doreen Lawrence of Clarendon OBE

On Thursday 20th October, The Black and Minority Ethnic Staff Network and the Equality and Diversity Unit are hosting the Black History Month annual lecture in the Pichette Auditorium at Pembroke College.
This year's lecture will be given by Baroness Doreen Lawrence of Clarendon OBE at 5.30pm. Refreshments will be served at 5pm prior to the talk.

The University, together with the Black and Minority Ethnic Staff Network, hosts an annual Black History Month lecture, to help celebrate the achievements of the black, Asian and minority ethnic communities and shed light on their history and heritage.
Baroness Lawrence is a British Jamaican campaigner and co-founder of the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust. The trust was founded in memory of Baroness Lawrence’s son Stephen, a teenager who was murdered in a racist attack in South East London in 1993. The trust works to promote fairness and justice. Baroness Lawrence was appointed OBE for services to community relations in 2003, and made a life peer in the House of Lords in 2013. In January 2016, she became the new Chancellor of De Montfort University, Leicester. Baroness Lawrence continues to campaign for justice for victims of racist crime, and is a member of Liberty, also known as the National Council for Civil Liberties, and patron on Stop Hate UK, a hate crime charity.
