Interview Information
All interviews this year will take place online using Microsoft Teams. Any additional technology required will depend on the course you are being interviewed for.
Technology requirements have been divided into three tiers, with tier 1 involving the least technology and tier 3 requiring the most. Please click the drop down below to find out more information about the technology required for the different tiers.
Most courses are in tier 1 where you will only need a computer for video conferencing using Microsoft Teams. Tier 2 subjects are likely to require the use of a shared virtual whiteboard, and tier 3 subjects will require a separate touchscreen device for the whiteboard along with a stylus so you can share mathematical notation, draw sketches, annotate diagrams or text, or add text.
The tier of your subject should have been confirmed in your invite to interview, and you can also check this and read more about technology requirements here.
Technical Problems
Please make sure you are aware of the technical requirements for your subject in advance of your interview. This will help you to minimise technical problems.
If you are being interviewed for a Level 3 subject and do not have access to a suitable touch screen device, please contact your school or college, who may be able to help you. If your school or college is not able to help, or if you are an independent candidate, please contact us- admissions@pmb.ox.ac.uk.
Despite the guidance above, we are aware that some candidates may experience unavoidable technical problems during their interview.
If this happens to you, don’t worry. If your call cuts off you can use your original invite link to rejoin the call.
If your video call fails our interviewers may call you on the phone number you provided on your interview registration form to continue. Please make sure you have this phone nearby during your interview.
If you experience milder technical problems such as audio difficulties, please don’t be afraid to say so. For example, if audio quality means you miss part of a question please ask the interviewer to repeat themselves, or if you can’t see something that has been held up on screen please say.
Please make sure you are aware of the technical requirements for your subject in advance of your interview. This will help you to minimise technical problems.
Mock Interview videos
Recorded with our tutors and current students, the University of Oxford has created a series of subject-specific demonstration interviews to show candidates what to expect from an Oxford interview from the perspective of an interviewee and from an admissions tutor.
Each video begins with an introduction from the tutors explaining the format or structure of the interview, and what they are looking for from candidates. This is followed by the sample interview itself and then a tutors' commentary, during which they discuss how the interview went.
The full list of subjects and videos can be found here on the University's website.
