Theology & Oriental Studies
Pembroke is an excellent College to choose for the joint Theology & Oriental Studies course because it has a uniquely large team of Oriental Studies experts as well as a Theology Tutor (Justin Jones) who is a specialist in world religions.
Theology and Oriental Studies students choose from a number of options across the degree programmes, and will typically choose over their three years to specialise in any one of the following traditions: Buddhism; Eastern Christianity; Hinduism; Islam; or Judaism.
The course also contains an intensive language learning component throughout in support of this study, which may be in Pali, Tibetan, Sanskrit, Arabic, Hebrew or Greek.
Find out more about the course on the University of Oxford website.
Pembroke College has made it a policy to build up interest in Oriental Studies and is the only undergraduate college to have three tutorial fellows from the Oriental Studies Faculty. Courses include Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Chinese, Hebrew & Jewish Studies and Japanese.
The College normally admits four undergraduates each year to read Theology.
Our Open Days in June/ July and September each year provide an opportunity for prospective applicants to talk to staff, tutors and students.
