Judith Valerie Engel is an Austrian concert pianist. She is currently pursuing a DPhil in Historical Musicology at the University of Oxford, writing about the piano music of Viennese 18th-century composer Marianna Martines. She is the recipient of the Stone-Mallabar Studentship in association with Christ Church. Judith Valerie started studying the piano at the age of five with Neuhaus student Prof. Nina Igudesman. From the age of 17 onwards, after graduating high school a year early, renowned pianist and pedagogue Prof. Pavel Gililov was her teacher. Under his supervision she completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree with highest distinction at the Mozarteum University Salzburg, where she was also a recipient of the university’s merit-based scholarship. During her MA, a brief Erasmus+ stint took Helsinki, studying in the piano class of Teppo Koivisto. Before coming to Oxford, Judith Valerie was pursuing graduate studies at UBC in Vancouver, in the piano studio of Dr. Terence Dawson, winning multiple awards and scholarships. She has also trained privately under several distinguished maestros, such as Paul Badura-Skoda and Matti Raekallio and performed in venues across Europe and North-America.
