Chapman, Robert Stanley

Robert Chapman was born on 20th July 1891, the eldest son of Robert John Stanley and Ursula Chapman of Stoke Newington, London. After attending St. Olave’s Grammar School, he matriculated at Pembroke in 1911 on an open Rous Scholarship and obtained a 2nd class BA in Modern History in 1914. A rifleman in ‘C’ company, 2nd/5th battalion of the London Rifle Brigade, Chapman died on 22nd September 1917, aged 26, of wounds received while attending to the wounded under shell fire on 20th September. He was buried at Mendinghem Military Cemetery, Belgium.
