Chaplin, Charles Slingsby

Charles Chaplin was born on 31st May 1863, the second son of Clifford Waterman Chaplin of Ashfordly, Leicester. He matriculated at Pembroke in 1882 but left without taking a degree. A lieutenant in the 9th battalion, Kings Royal Rifle Corps, he died on 30th July 1915, on active service in Flanders, aged 52. He is commemorated on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres.
