Bass, Philip Burnet

Philip Bass was born on 11th January 1895 in St. Helier, the eldest son of Lt. Col. Philip de Salis Bass. After attending the Imperial Service College, Windsor, Philip matriculated at Pembroke College in 1913 on a King Charles I Scholarship. A lieutenant with "A" Company, 5th battalion, The Cheshire Regiment, Philip was killed in action at the Battle of the Somme on 1st July 1916, aged 21. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme.
