Barrows, Maxwell Dalston

Maxwell Barrows was born on 5th August 1898, the only son of George and Jane Barrows of Nottingham. After attending Sedbergh School, Maxwell matriculated at Pembroke College in Michaelmas 1916 on a King Charles Open Scholarship. A 2nd lieutenant with "E" Compay, 1st/5th battalion of The Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment), Maxwell was killed in action on 3rd October 1918, aged 20, in fighting near Bellinglise on the St. Quentin Canal. He was awarded the Military Cross on 24th September 1918 and is buried at Bellicourt British Cemetery, Aisne, France.
