Alumni Careers: Eleanor McClelland

30th session of the Human Rights Council - Item 3 - Ms Eleanor McClelland

Eleanor McClelland is a recent alumna of Pembroke College. Formerly an undergraduate student in Arabic, Eleanor continued at Pembroke completing an M.Stud in Oriental Studies (focus on ‘Human Rights’) in summer 2015.

Currently, she is undertaking an internship with the Geneva International Centre for Justice, an NGO that focusses on human rights in the Middle East, particularly in Iraq.

Eleanor gave statements at the 30th session of the UN Human Rights Council on Friday 18th and Monday 22nd September on behalf of the Union of Arab Jurists and Geneva International Centre for Justice.

Speaking to the College, Eleanor explained that her statements aimed to draw the Council’s attention to "the systemic nature of human rights abuse in Iraq and the current human rights situation in Palestine", noting the neglect of the international community in regard to ongoing human rights violations in these regions.
