Humanities Seminars

Following an introductory day at Pembroke College, the academic programme begins with six seminars held after school on a weekly basis in both London and the North. The seminar series is themed around ‘Modernity and Enlightenment: the Making of the Modern World’.

Students are given a course reader, and are expected to prepare for each seminar via the challenging and varied extracts contained within it. The reading and seminars allow students to explore a range of humanities subjects, and the ways in which they interact. Throughout the year, students will be introduced to the foundational texts of the enlightenment, studying John Locke, Edward Gibbon, Thomas Jefferson, and many more.
