Pembroke is rare in having three senior academic tutors in Chemistry who are all enthusiastic about teaching and at the same time are leading ground-breaking research. Together they possess a wide range of expertise, which cover the breadth of the discipline and extend beyond it. Chemists at Pembroke have access to learn from and debate with academics that are engaged in the most up-to-date techniques and analysis.
We pride ourselves on developing the full potential of all our students and providing them with excellent support. Many of our recent graduates have gone on to higher degrees in research both at Oxford and around the world: we view Pembroke as an excellent training ground for those dedicated to the sciences.

Andrew Baldwin combines NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and electron microscopy to study the structures and dynamics of human 'molecular chaperone' proteins (vital to understanding diseases including Parkinsons and Alzheimer's).
Pembroke Fellows Prof. Andrew Baldwin and Prof. Ben Davis have released a research paper featuring collaborative work.
Oxford is one of the leading chemistry departments in the world with a state-of-the-art lab, and international level research in a broad range of areas including: synthesis and catalysis, medicinal and biological chemistry, sustainable energy, advanced materials, innovative measurement and theoretical and computational chemistry. A new teaching lab is under construction and expected to be completed in 2018. The department has an outstanding track record in commercialising the innovative work of research staff, which has raised millions of pounds for the University.
The MChem is a four-year course, and is not modular, enabling exploration of the links within the subject. The core material is taken by all students, with opportunities to specialise later in the course. The fourth year (Part II) is devoted exclusively to research – a distinctive feature of Chemistry at Oxford.
