Dr Samuel Johnson

PemBook: Samuel Johnson: a life by David Nokes

Student, 1728-1729

Dr Samuel Johnson (1709-1784) has been described as "arguably the most distinguished man of letters in English history" (DNB). He spent just over a year as a student at Pembroke, but despite his short stay, he retained a deep affection for the college and made frequent visits to his old tutor, and later Master of the College, William Adams.
