Student, 1946-1949

Charles Swithinbank saw more of Antarctica than any living person. He was a regular visitor to the Polar regions on scientific expeditions, studying the ice flow and helping to create an ice atlas. Later, he was head of the Earth Sciences Division of the British Antarctic Survey.
