Over £500 raised for the Oxfordshire Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Centre through the Pembroke College Boat Club’s Charity Ergathon

25th January 2017

We are pleased to report that the Pembroke College Boat Club have raised a grand total of £510.38 for the Oxfordshire Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Centre (OSARCC) through a charity ergathon, which took place on Saturday 21st January 2017.

They challenged the Boat Club at Pembroke College, Cambridge, to erg the distance between the colleges. In addition to donations made online, many volunteers got involved on the day by erging kilometres, donating and supporting a bake sale (which raised £130 of the total fund).

On the day PCBC were delighted to see some familiar faces, as alumni returned to the boat house to support the cause. Anastasia Chitty, who is a former president of Oxford University Women’s Boat Club (OUWBC) and is currently trialling with Great Britain came to kick off the ergathon with the team.

The club kept their Facebook followers updated on the day through live-streamed videos, which are available to view here.

We caught up with the PCBC's Development Officer, Alex Swift (History and English, 2014) about her impressions of the event. She said: ‘I'm really proud of how PCBC has worked together to complete this challenge, combining everyone's skills to produce a fantastic result for the Oxford Sexual Abuse and Rape Crisis Centre. Our erging, baking and continued enthusiasm meant the day was a great success and our donations were gratefully received by the OSARCC. It was exciting to collaborate with PCBC Cambridge and we hope that we can maintain a strong friendship with them in the future.’

The OSARCC support women survivors of sexual violence, promote and advocate for their needs and work towards the elimination of sexual violence. Well done to everyone involved for raising funds towards a great cause.
