All undergraduate and graduate freshers will matriculate and swear the Bodleian Oath at the Sheldonian Theatre on Saturday 13 October 2018. Further information on timings and arrangements will be made available to you during the first week of term. Proceedings will start in the Hall at approximately 11.30 with a roll call of all those matriculating, followed by the freshers’ photograph and the ceremony at the Sheldonian Theatre. The whole event will be finished by approximately 15:30. Please note that unfortunately it is not possible for family or friends to attend the ceremony.
The required dress for matriculation is known as ‘sub-fusc’. You should arrange to purchase your sub-fusc as soon as possible after arriving in Oxford, as you will need it for matriculation. For the freshers’ dinners in freshers’ week, you will also need to wear your gown, but not full sub-fusc.
The University of Oxford shop supplies sub-fusc, please find further information here. Alternatively Shepherd and Woodward are one of several suppliers, and details of obtaining the sub-fusc from them are available via this link.
Your Tutors may wish you to do some background reading, and those that do, will set reading lists. You are advised not to purchase any books until you have met all the conditions of your admissions offer. Reading lists will be uploaded below when they are available, and as more are uploaded over the next few weeks, we will email students taking the relevant subjects to let them know.
Not all Tutors set pre-course reading, but all students can find out further details about the course and forthcoming lectures by checking the relevant departmental website.
Engineering offer holders will be sent preparatory work by the Engineering Department after A Level result confirmation (17 August).
