Detailed Biography

Research Interests

How should governments and central banks manage natural resource wealth?

My research focuses on how macroeconomic policy should be conducted in resource exporters. This includes whether resource wealth should be spent, saved abroad or invested at home; what types of investments these should be, and how central banks should conduct monetary policy in response.

This work is being partially funded by an ESRC Future Research Leaders grant, titled “Riding the boom: how should monetary and fiscal policy manage natural resource wealth?”

This research also underpins policy advisory work. In the past this has included work for the World Bank on resource policy in Iraq and Libya, and for the International Growth Centre on policy in Ghana.
