Graduate Students

Pembroke plays host to graduates in a wide range of subjects from a diversity of backgrounds throughout the world. The Middle Common Room (MCR), situated in an attractive seventeenth century building at the heart of the College, offers social, light catering, entertainment and computer facilities and is a place where graduates can come to work, recharge, or wind down.

All Pembroke graduates are automatically members of the Middle Common Room (MCR).

For further details on the application process, please refer to the Graduate Admissions Office website.

Graduate admissions selection criteria for Pembroke College

  • Applicants must first have been accepted by a Department or Faculty of the University of Oxford before any college may consider them.
  • Applications are considered for any of the courses in which the College offers admission. Please consult the following link to see these courses: www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/postgraduate_courses/college_guide/index.html
  • Applications are usually considered by academic staff in the relevant subject area and the Dean of Graduate Students.
  • Preference will normally be given to applicants whose area of study overlaps with the academic interests of the College's academic staff.
  • The College aims to admit a certain number of graduate students each year spread across the range of subjects in which it accepts graduate students, and this will determine the number of offers which can be made to applicants. Where there are more applicants than offers which can be made, the relative academic merit and potential of the applicants may be taken into account. It may not be possible to make offers to applicants whose applications are received late in the admissions round, when places are full.
  • The possession of competitively-won funding may be taken into account as an indicator of the applicant's academic merit and potential.
  • The final decision on whether to offer a place in the light of the overall competition for graduate places and the spread of those places across subject areas is usually taken by the Dean of Graduate Students.

Graduate accommodation and facilities

Graduates are housed in a variety of accommodation throughout the College; in the Sir Roger Bannister Graduate Centre, in the modern Sir Geoffrey Arthur Building by the river, and on the main College site, as well as in graduate houses in the city.

Graduates are entitled to use College library, IT, catering and social facilities, and are each allocated a College Advisor, independent of their University Supervisor, who is able to act as a point of contact in their subject within the College, while the Dean of Graduates oversees the general progress and well-being of all Pembroke graduate students. Whatever your background, experience and interests, graduate life at Pembroke could have much to offer you.
