Melandra Castle Trust Prize
Advertised in Michaelmas Term this prize is awarded biennially (£750 in 2011-2012), applications are invited from post-graduate students, who are completing their second year of study but who are continuing next year. The purpose of the award is to meet academic (including any travel) costs incurred in the furtherance of the applicant's research.
The Picot Prizes
These prizes are intended to assist undergraduates or graduates in enhancing their educational experience while at the College by undertaking study in an area which is not an essential part of their university course. While the study may be related to that course, that is not a requirement. An example could be to study a foreign the language and culture which is not the subject of the applicant's university course. The study may take place anywhere in the world, and need not involve following a formal course. It must take place over the summer vacation, and be completed before completion of their final examination or (if a graduate) submitted their thesis.
The amount of each prize awarded will be at the discretion of the College, provided that the total amount of money awarded in each year shall not exceed £5,000.
Applications are invited in Michaelmas Term with the closing date in 3rd week of Hilary Term. Students should complete the general application form available on the intranet, setting out the nature of the proposed study in detail, including its costs and a statement from a College tutor or supervisor that the applicant is making good progress in their course or research, that the proposed course of study is not essential to their course or research, and that the applicant's academic work will not be impeded by undertaking the proposed study. Successful applicants will be expected to submit a report on their study after completion. Successful applicants are informed at the end of Hilary Term.
Pier Giorgio Frassati Travel Scholarship
This prize is open to undergraduate or graduate members of College, not in their final year and prepared to take up the award in either the Easter or Long Vacation. The objective of the scholarship is to promote an understanding of environmental problems, their implications for future generations and possible solutions.
