Sports and Leisure

Pembroke boasts a huge range of sports clubs from football to tennis, rowing to darts, and you can do as much or as little as you like.

Pembroke has its own sports ground situated about 10 minutes walk from the College, consisting of two football pitches, a rugby pitch, two cricket nets, two grass tennis courts, three hard tennis/netball courts and a newly renovated pavilion. Pembroke boat house is also located close by and includes a basic gym and bar facilities.

Both the men and women play sports to a high level and with a great deal of success. Recent triumphs last year included winning the men’s rugby plate, the women’s rugby cup and the men’s 5-aside football cup. Rowing is a particular strength and we have two of the best boat crews on the river, currently ranked 2nd and 3rd in the whole of the University for the men and women respectively.

Even if you don’t play sport to a particularly high level Pembroke still has a lot to offer. Anyone can take part and it is common for students to try out a completely new sport whilst at Oxford. Most sports have two competitions which run simultaneously a League competition and an intercollegiate competition know as “Cuppers”.

If you have any queries regarding sport at Pembroke please don’t hesitate to contact the Sports Rep, Samuel Westaway

Students awarded Blues will receive a payment from the College of either £70 (full) or £45 (half). To receive payment, please email the Bursar's Secretary, Jane Richmond.

The following sports are currently available at Pembroke and further details can be found by contacting the Sports Rep. or one of the captains below. If a particular sport you would like to play is not listed then that is not a bar to getting a team together and playing it!
