Schools Liaison

Pembroke seeks applications from all students with excellent academic potential, regardless of their social, ethnic, regional or educational background. We host a number of events for schools and teachers throughout the year.

School Visits

We welcome visits from schools, either on a pre-arranged basis or at one of our Open Days. Please contact the Admissions & Access Officer if you would like to arrange a group visit for your school. Depending on availability, we can usually offer a tour of the college, the opportunity to meet current undergraduates, and a presentation with question and answer session with the Tutor for Admissions or a relevant tutor. We can adapt the format according to individual requirements and year groups, and outside the University term time it may also be possible to arrange overnight accommodation.

Schoolteachers’ Conference

Every year we host a teachers' conference, usually in mid March. Please click here to see the programme of events from our 2012 March conference. We usually send invitations to teachers and schools in early January. If in the meantime you would like to register your interest for the next event, please contact the Admissions & Access Officer.

Pem-brooke Collaboration

The Pem-brooke Collaboration is a unique Access project bringing together Pembroke College and two sixth-form colleges in London's East End, Brooke House (BSix) in Hackney and New VIc college in Newham. In 2011 BSix College won the prestigious London Education Partnership Award under the category 'Building Bridges'. This was for the work undertaken for the ‘Raising Aspirations Programme’ of which Pembroke College, is a partner under the ‘Pem-brooke ‘ scheme, along with Queen Mary, University of London, the University of York and City University, London.

This collaboration has been in the news a lot recently! Please click here to read some of the many articles. You can also find us on YouTube.

Regional Outreach

The University has recently developed a programme to simplify communication between the University and all schools in the United Kingdom. Each Oxford college is linked to a Local Authority to ensure that each school has a first point of contact within the University.

This measure has been undertaken to improve the way in which we communicate information, advice and guidance to teachers. The scheme will not have any bearing on the Oxford admissions process and will not influence whether a college offers a candidate a place. It is not intended to replace any existing contact a school may have with a particular college or department.

Pembroke has been linked to Local Authorities in Bolton, Bury, Cheshire, Halton, Hammersmith & Fulham, Rochdale, Warrington and Wigan. Since the regional outreach programme was set up, we have been working hard to develop links and ongoing projects with schools in these areas in particular. Some examples include the Fred Walker essay prize with Canon Slade school in Bolton, and our student-led road trip to the Manchester area in June each year.
