The Pantry

The pantry is located in Staircase 2, ground floor, on the left (opposite the JCR). It is open from 07.45-12.00 and 13.30-16.00 weekdays and sells sandwiches, snacks, confectionary and drinks. There is also the opportunity to surf the internet or view the menus for that week’s Informal and Formal Halls. In addition, the pantry sells official Pembroke merchandise, such as scarves, ties, cufflinks, hoodies, mugs and teddybears.

Pantry Breakfast Menu

  • 07.45-12.00, Monday – Friday
  • Open to all, pay-as-you-go
  • From cereals, toast, croissants, yoghurts and fruit to bacon and egg baps and Full English breakfast, freshly cooked while you wait. Breakfast baps available all day!

Pantry Snack Menu

  • 13.30-16.00, Monday – Friday
  • Open to all, pay-as-you-go
  • Hot or cold sandwiches, panini and bagels.

Hall Dining

The Hall is located in Chapel Quad. Eating in Hall is a great way to get to know new Pembroke friends and to catch-up with old ones.

Lunch

  • 12.30 – 13.30, Monday – Friday
  • Open to all, pay-as-you-go
  • A self-service choice of several hot meals (including vegetarian option), a well-stocked salad bar, desserts and drinks is available on a pay-as-you-go basis. Lunch is particularly popular with those living out of College, who can ‘fill-up’ cheaply at lunchtime and then not need to worry about cooking in the evening.
See the blackboard in the Lodge for the daily menu choices.

Informal Hall

  • 19.00-19.45, Monday, Wednesday and Friday
  • For first year undergraduates and visiting students, on battels (compulsory)
(other years may sign up at the lodge before 10am that day – first year undergraduates and visiting students may also sign up their guests on this list)
  • A self-service two-course dinner, with a vegetarian option, is available. First years are expected to attend or sign out (in exceptional circumstances only – please see Student Handbook for details). All other Pembrokians and guests must be signed in on the daily sheets held at the Lodge, before 10am that day.

Formal Hall

  • 19.10, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday
  • For first year undergraduates and visiting students, on battels (compulsory)
(other years may sign up at the lodge before 10am that day – first year undergraduates and visiting students may also sign up their guests on this list)
  • A two/three-course dinner is served, wine is included on Sundays. Again first years are expected to attend or sign out. All other Pembrokians and guests must be signed in on the daily sheets held at the Lodge, before 10am that day.

On completion of the new build it is likely that all students opting to live on the main site (including the new build) will be expected to take a 'meal plan', while there will be the option for some second and third years to self cater at the Sir Geoffrey Arthur Building.

Bar

The Bar is located in Chapel Quad.

  • Usually open 18.30-23.00, Monday – Saturday, 1st to 8th Week
  • Please see notice boards for promos and time changes.

Dietary Requirements

We make every effort to meet specific dietary requirements. In particular we can provide vegetarian, halal and kosher options. In order to ensure these are available to those who have registered a requirement, they are only served on presentation of a "dietary card". These cards can be obtained from the Bursary/Conference Office (SC1, ground floor).

If attending a special dinner, for example in the Forte Room or a JCR Dinner in the Hall, please make sure that your requirements are known when accepting a function and not at the dining table. Those with registered dietary requirements will be served their meal before those who decide on the evening.

While every endeavour is made to warn of peanuts in dishes and products, we strongly request that if you are in doubt, you consult a member of staff.

Dinners in the Forte Room

The Forte Room can be booked for Dinners on weekday evenings, via the Conference Office (found Staircase 1, ground floor, on the left). Dinners can be booked for a minimum of 20 and maximum of 34 people. A Fellow or Junior Dean must be in attendance for the Dinner to take place.

These facilities are very popular, particularly with Pembroke Societies and Subject Groups, and should be booked, if only tentatively, well in advance. Two Party Booking Forms must be completed for the dinner (and for any gathering where more than ten people will be in attendance) and handed in at least ten days in advance of the function. Party booking forms are held in the Conference Office.
