Weekly Services & Activities in Michaelmas term 2011

Sunday services for Michaelmas term. All Services are at 5.30pm in Chapel - all are most welcome to come and participate fully. All services are choral and led by the Chaplain and Choir. 

Service details for Michaelmas term

Readings are those for Principal Service for Common Worship 2000.The form of service is Book of Common Prayer (1662) throughout the term, apart from the Sung Eucharist on 30 October which is CW 2000.

Week 1: Sunday 9th October Choral Evensong. The chaplain

Psalm 23; Isaiah 25:1-9; Matthew 22:1-14 Music: Hymns (NEH) 475; 484 (tune Aurelia =167); 478 (the last two hymns are by Pembrokian students from previous generations, and 478 is in many ways the ‘college hymn’). Setting, canticles and anthem:

Week 4: Sunday 30 October  Choral Eucharist. Celebrant and Preacher: the chaplain.

All Saints Eve Revelation 7:9-17; Matthew 5:1-12 Music: Hymns (NEH) 373 (tune Coe Fen. CP 466); NEH 273; 197. Mass Setting and anthem:

Week 5: Sunday 6 November Choral Evensong. The Revd Dr Ralph Waller, Principal of Harris Manchester College and Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Oxford.

Psalm 70; Amos 5:18-24; Matthew 25:1-13 Music: Hymns (NEH) 294; 391; 396. Setting, canticles and anthem:

Week 6: Sunday 13 November Choral Evensong. Remembrance Sunday Dr Adrian Gregory, Damon Wells Fellow in History, Pembroke College Oxford and expert on World War I.

Week 7: Sunday 20 November Choral Evensong. Professor Canon Sarah Foot, Regius Professor of Ecclesiastical History, University of Oxford.

Week 8: Sunday 27 November Carol Service.
